Job Purpose
The Wellbeing Specialist provides professional psychological support to students and contributes to the development of a healthy, emotionally supportive, and psychologically safe school environment.
The role focuses on assessment, early identification, intervention, consultation, prevention, and referral, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
A. Psychological Support
• Provide age-appropriate psychological support to students.
• Support students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social difficulties.
• Conduct individual or group sessions within the scope of the school’s psychological services.
• Support students with emotional regulation, self-esteem, anxiety, stress, social relationships, and adjustment difficulties.
• Help students develop healthy coping strategies.
B. Assessment and Identification
Where professionally appropriate:
• Assess students presenting with emotional or behavioral concerns.
• Identify possible underlying psychological factors affecting behavior or learning.
• Observe students in relevant school environments.
• Review relevant information from teachers, school Disciplinary Officer, and parents.
• Provide professional recommendations based on observations and assessments.
The Wellbeing Specialist should not make diagnoses outside their professional scope or the school’s authorized procedures.
C. Behavioral Intervention
• Work collaboratively with the Disciplinary Officer on complex behavioral cases.
• Help identify the potential underlying causes of repeated behavioral concerns.
• Develop behavioral or emotional support strategies.
• Recommend appropriate interventions.
• Monitor student progress.
D. Staff Consultation
• Advise teachers regarding appropriate strategies for supporting individual students.
• Provide guidance regarding emotional and behavioral needs.
• Conduct awareness sessions or workshops for staff where appropriate.
• Help staff recognize early warning signs of emotional or psychological difficulties.
E. Parent Collaboration
• Meet with parents when appropriate.
• Provide professional guidance regarding student wellbeing.
• Explain recommended support strategies.
• Discuss concerns within professional confidentiality boundaries.
• Recommend external psychological or medical assessment when necessary.
F. Referral
Where a student’s needs exceed the school’s internal services:
• Recommend referral to an appropriate external professional or service.
• Coordinate, with parental consent and according to DISK policy, relevant information with external professionals.
• Follow up on recommendations where appropriate.
G. Safeguarding
The Wellbeing Specialist must follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and understand that confidentiality has appropriate limits when there is a concern regarding a student’s safety or wellbeing.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
• Previous professional experience working with children and/or adolescents, preferably within a school, counselling, or child wellbeing setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate, professional, and confidential student records and case documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary school support team.
• Fluency in English is required. German language is an advantage.
